Through the courses and experiences that the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has provided I have developed into a confident and excited new teacher. I have learned countless skills including how to effectively manage a classroom, incorporate technology into lessons, continuously assess student progress, and strategies to develop student literacy.

I took a year of Special Education courses which, above all, taught me that every student is capable of learning. What varies are the methods, environments, and rates in which they learn best. I have learned how to teach a variety of students with different abilities in different educational settings. Every student is good at something, and it is my job to target those qualities and help the students apply then in other situations. Each of my students will be looked at and treated as an individual, with individual needs.

Throughout my education I have learned the importance of being a reflective learner. After teaching lessons the first thoughts on my mind are if the students met their learning objective and what I can do next time to make it better, or how I would have done it differently. Professional growth and development should never cease, even after my schooling has. The way I look at it, there is always room for improvement. By constantly taking a step back I can keep myself on my toes, always being aware of what's working and what's not.

Creating this ePortfolio has helped me summarize  and put into perspective what I have learned the past few years of my life, and has helped me to realize how truly happy I am with my decision to become a teacher. I have such a strong passion for the education and development of children. To me, it is the most important and rewarding job out there. I am prepared to give teaching my all, not only for myself but for the students that I will have the opportunity to teach.

The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of the mind for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.
